Community Water Supply Program

The Community Water Supply Program (CWSP) provides grants for community water supply improvements in dryland districts receiving less than 600 mm average annual rainfall.

The aim of the CWSP is to encourage investment by dryland farming, pastoral and remote communities in the planning, development and installation of reliable sources of non-potable community water supplies.

The Department of Water works collaboratively with local governments and dryland communities in the development of community water supply proposals which results in rural communities being better prepared for years of low rainfall.

Categories of work considered for funding under the program include:

  • construction of community (non-pipeline) water supplies
  • enhancement of rural town water and remote community non-potable water supplies
  • refurbishment of strategic agricultural area water sources
  • pipeline projects.
