Our drying climate and growing population are placing increasing pressures in the state's water resources and water supplies.
By developing a regional plan which specifically addresses the issues facing the Perth-Peel region, the Department of Water can ensure the best decisions are made for managing the region's water resources now and into the future.

Perth-Peel regional water plan boundary
The Perth-Peel region extends from Moora in the north to Waroona in the south. It stretches from the Indian Ocean across the Swan coastal plain and along the Darling Range. For the purpose of the regional water plan, the region is divided into three subregions: Gingin, Perth and Peel.
The drafting of the Perth-Peel regional water plan is being managed by the Department of Water and the document will provide strategic direction for the entire region and its water resources well into the future. Ultimately, the plan will ensure that the best decisions are made at state and local government levels, and throughout industry and the community. As the 'umbrella' plan, it also provides context for the other water planning activities including the Gnangara Sustainability Strategy and Water Forever.
As well as providing context and strategic direction, other objectives of the plan include describing water resource conditions, trends and major influences, assessing the water demand and availability in the region and investigating the implications of different demand management possibilities. The regional plan will also identify ways to better integrate water and land planning and engage with key stakeholders.
The Perth-Peel regional water plan will include a list of Department of Water planning priorities and a schedule of actions for the region. The draft plan will be available for public comment in late 2009.
