Overview

Efficient use of water

Water use efficiency is the most cost-effective and immediate way to conserve water.By using water wisely and by considering water-efficient products in homes and gardens, householders can reduce their water use significantly and also save on energy and money.

Approximately 50 per cent of all the water used by Perth households goes on gardens and outdoor areas. Permanent water efficiency measures help to ensure that groundwater and scheme water are used responsibly.

All new urban developments should be designed to ensure efficient water use and consider a non-drinking water source, such as rainwater or recycled water for lawns and gardens. Where applicable, landscaping of new parks and ovals should align with the local government's water conservation plans.
