Gnangara Meter Handover Project
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation is conducting a handover program of Gnangara state-owned meters. The first stage of handovers began in February 2016, and the program is expected to run until 2018-2019. If you are a licence holder with a state-owned meter, you will be contacted by the department in writing when your stage is about to begin.
The department will approach licence holders with state-owned meters with an offer to take over the ownership of those meters. As a licence holder, you will have the choice of signing a Transfer of Ownership Deed and retaining the state-owned meter(s) on your property, or opting to have your meter removed by the department. If you choose to have your state-owned meter removed, but you are required to meter under the new measurement policy, you will need to install your own meter.

Progress to date
Stage 1 Feb-July 2016
57 licensees were contacted to participate in stage one of the handover project. 46 of these were required under current policy to measure their take of water. Transfer of the ownership of the meter/s on these properties has been completed for all of these 46 licensees.
The remaining 11 licensees were not required to measure their take of water. Three of these accepted the transfer of ownership of the water meter and eight licensees decided not to take ownership of their meter. The department has removed meters from those properties.
Stage 2 (1 July 2016 – 30 June 2017)
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation anticipates inviting up to another 400 licensees to participate in the program. Licensees will be contacted following the appointment of a contractor that will provide meter validation and testing services.
