Bore fines increase across February
Released 09 Mar 2011
A total of 126 fines across the metropolitan area were issued over the month, compared to 93 in January.
"The message to all water users across the state is water is scarce and needs to be used wisely and efficiently," Department of Water Director Water Resource Use Rob Hammond said.
"Following last winter's record low rainfall, and a very hot summer, there's temptation to compensate by overwatering and breaking rosters to keep gardens alive."
The Bureau of Meteorology reported maximum temperatures in excess of 35 degrees from 21 to 28 February, averaging 34.2 degrees for the month, and has forecast maximum temperatures into the 30s for the coming weeks.
"With continuing hot weather predicted for this month, it is now more important than ever that water is not used recklessly and continues to be seen as a precious resource," Mr Hammond said.
Mr Hammond also said the ongoing dry season meant everybody must consider the amount of water they use and how they use it.
