Urban development
Planning and managing water, including non-drinking water, is vitally important to our future so that we can encourage and enable the growth of liveable water smart towns and cities. To achieve this the Department advocates the use of water sensitive urban design which is under the Better urban water management (WAPC 2008) process. Urban water management
The Department's Urban water management programs endevour to create cities and towns that are resilient, liveable, productive and sustainable.
Urban water design
The department assesses urban water management strategies and plans prepared under the Better Urban Water Management process to encourage water sensitive urban design.
Stormwater
The Department's role in stormwater management is to provide floodplain mapping, prepare DWMPs and provide stormwater management guidance.
Urban water planning
The Department prepares DWMPs in consultation with other state government agencies, local governments and other key stakeholders.
